Be Consistent with your Personal Branding

The most important aspects to achieving personal branding are probably consistency and commitment. You must stay committed and consistent in your personal brand. It usually takes 3 to 6 months for the brand to take root. You have to fight the temptation to quit after a week or two of not seeing results. You have to stick to it and you have to really do it for 3 to 6 months for you to even see the results coming back.  It takes that long for people to learn to recognize you for who your brand is, and to know you as your brand.

You cannot force these things into people. People need to just see it, absorb it, process it, and then recognize you as that. Also, fight the temptation to change your personal brand before it’s taken root. If you find yourself thinking, oh, maybe I should change my brand, you really need to be honest with yourself and ask whether you’re just being impatient.

Sometimes changing your brand can be detrimental. A great example would be Calvin Klein. Calvin Klein was a designer known and famous for his clean line and his designs. That it’s: clean, elegant, simple, and fashionable all at the same time. At one point, Calvin Klein as a company decided that they were going to gain more market shares by sending their lower-end jeans and products to a place like Costco. That just crushed their brand. To this day, Calvin Klein still hasn’t recovered its brand. So be very careful.

I think consistency is important in any kind of marketing, blogging or branding. You wouldn’t see McDonalds run one commercial per day and think that is good enough. Kleenex did such a good job at branding, we call facial tissues Kleenex. Why, braining and consistency. I think you nailed it with this article. You are right on! Great Job!

Dear Craig

I couldn’t agree with you more. You must be a great marketer yourself. Thanks for commenting on my blog.
