Is there a guarantee in Entrepreneurship?

A new entrepreneur made their commitment to the great adventure of entrepreneurship. Then challenges come around the corner and self-doubt creeps in. Most people when self-doubt arrive they start asking, “Is there a guarantee?” Let me just remind you that there is no guarantee in life. We all know that, and I know it sounds so cliché.

 

But let me put it to you this way. When you propose to your spouse or when you accepted the proposal from your spouse, when those special words are uttered: “Will you marry me?” do you take the ring and say yes, or do you take the ring out of the box and say, “I’ll marry you as long as you don’t get too naggy, as long as you don’t get on my nerves too much, otherwise I’m going to call it quits.” You don’t put that kind of condition on it, you just said yes, and you go forward.

 

My husband and I just had a child, and when we first said we wanted to have a baby, I didn’t say, “Honey, we’re going to have a baby, but if he or she gets too difficult for us to manage, we’re going to give him back to the hospital.” No one does that! You make a commitment, you experience the resistance, which is the challenge, you overcome it, or you work it out because this is what you want to do.

 

Your business should be the same thing. You’ve got to get your head in the right place, the belief needs to stay there, it needs to be permanent and ingrained within you. If you start looking at the bad and focusing on the bad, bad things will happen. You cannot feed the self-doubt in your head.
