Business Plan for a Home Based Business - I-Action step # 2

Welcome back!

What is your “Why”?

Obviously we all know starting a business is not the easiest thing to do, but it is the most rewarding thing to do. If that is a true statement for you, then, what is your reward? What is your why? Why do you want your own business? When I interview people I ask, “Why do you want your own business?” About 1 out of 5 people I asked would give me a real answer. That shocked me. The other 4 times, I get answers that is not very deep, “I want more money” Wanting more money is not bad, but sometime that alone is not a strong enough of reason to get through the tough times. The more clear you can be with your “Why”, the better you will be able to weather the tough times. Believe me, there will be tough time in the journey of your entrepreneurship. Your why, is your fuel, to your taxi cab engine. It will take you to your goal. Yes, money and material things are great, and all of us would enjoy having more money. For a lot of us, there has to be more to that in life then just the material things.

Here are some stories of different Entrepreneurs and their “Whys”, their “fuel” for their engine in their taxi cab.

A father and Son team I know, their “Why” is to do their Greyhound rescue. They are very passionate about rescuing these beautiful Greyhounds. They have rescued 5 Greyhounds, and they would love to be able to rescue 20 or 30 more. One day they would also like to be able to stop Greyhound racing all together. That is their why, and that is their passion and that is what drives them.

A single mother I interviewed said, her Why is to have a college fund for her

children. And a Foundation that can give out scholarship to kids that come from a single parent’s home. That’s a good why. That’s very important.

All of the above “Whys” are bigger that the individual themselves. Their fuel for their engine is so much stronger then having a little extra cash.
