Business Plan for a Home Based Business - I-Action step #10
Welcome back!
Have a meeting with your family.
This is one of the most important things. You’re running this business in the home, in your family’s territory, as well as yours. You are going to be re-budgeting, reorganizing your time and your money. All of it affects your family. Have a meeting with them. This will help you gain their support and understanding. This will help you get them on board with you. Make it clear to your family what you are trying to accomplish for yourself and them. By bringing this out at your family table, it will help clear the air and avoid bitterness. It will help you get your whole family in on this with you. You will get much more support, understanding and this will be a positive experience all around for everyone in your home. Share you work schedule with your family. If your children know Daddy works the home-based business every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday after work, then Daddy won’t be able to tuck you in Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights, but Daddy will be able to tuck you in all of the other nights. Your home life will have fewer interruptions and there will be fewer misunderstandings.
If your family members have less faith in their lives than you do and they are afraid of you trying something new with your life, then as a result, they may speak negatively about your business and plan. In that case, a family meeting will also be the place to address these issues as they arrive. You will have the opportunity to ask them for the respect to give you the room and time to do your business. Tell them you are going to do this for a minimum of one year. Ask them to keep any negative opinions to themselves. Explain to them that starting your own business is hard and that you could use any support they can give you. No negative comments for one year please!
