7 I-Action steps to developing excellent habits for a successful entrepreneur
Welcome back!
Let’s first talk about why we need to develop habit? A habit is needed when you know you need to do something, but it is not in your nature to do those things naturally. When you have developed those tasks into a habit, it will become natural for you to do those tasks. How do we develop habit? It is very simple; you take action to do that task 28 days in a roll. Suck with it for 28 days no matter what. Now you got a habit.
I-Action step #1 Stop the finger pointing
Take responsibility for your success. If something needs to be done, whose responsibility is it? The buck stops with you. When you’re a entrepreneur, if your prospect is not getting a return phone call, if your client is not getting a return phone call, it’s your fault because it’s your responsibility. If you say you are going to help them achieve a task, or help them get the shipment, it is your job to make sure that it’s all done. Granted, there’s delegation. There are jobs that other people do for you, but as an owner, you know the buck stops with you because you oversee everything.
Take responsibility on your own business. No blaming, you can’t blame anybody. As you leave your career as an employee and become an entrepreneur, become a business owner, this is I-Action step No. 1. It’s the first very important habit you have to begin to practice. You can no longer point fingers and blame. Everything is your responsibility. You will never say to your customer “It is the warehouse guy’s fault; he did put your shipment on the truck yesterday. I have nothing to do with that, would you like to speak with Joe in shipping about this?” Instead you would say to your customer “I am so sorry your shipment didn’t make it on the truck yesterday, I am going to the warehouse right now and personally see to it that it got on the truck. I will call you back as soon as I see your items got on the truck; to let you know that it is done.”
