I-Action step to developing excellent habits for a successful entrepreneur #6
Welcome back!
I-Action step #6 Get used to taking risks.
You cannot be an entrepreneur without taking risks. Now, I am not talking about crazy risk. Driving on the high way blindfolded kind of risks. I am talking about informed, educated risks. If you want to be an entrepreneur, a leader, you have to take risks.
One of the greatest coach of the Dallas Cowboys (the football team), Jimmy Johnson said “Do you want to be safe and good? Or do you want to take a chance and be great?” So, I ask you, do you want to be safe and good? On the other hand, do you want to take a chance, take some risks, so you can be great?
In my earlier days, I started my computer company. Nobody knows who I am, I got no business deal on my desk. As I was being persistent in self-discipline to continue to pursue my business, eventually deals start to come my way. First, I got one deal, then two deals. I remember the day when I got five deals on the table and I did not have funding to take any more deal, I was at my max. I remember that day I was ecstatic, five networking project at the same time. All of my prospecting efforts were paying off. Then the phone ring and it was my sixth deal coming in, I didn’t have money to do anymore deal.
I was sitting at a crossroads. On one hand, this is a new business and I have five deals going already. I can working on the five projects finish them and get paid on them in three days. Not a bad day!
On the other hand, when you are a new business; you sure don’t want to turn business away. However, I don’t have any more money to do deal number six. So, I have two choices. I can either turn down deal no. 6, because I don’t have the cash flow, and be safe, or I can take my mortgage money, and do deal number six. I did the latter. I took the mortgage money and I bought the inventory to do deal number six. It’s taking risks. You have to take risks to grow the business. If any of you play baseball, you know you cannot steal second if you don’t take your foot off the first base.
Remember being safe can get you to good, if you want to be great you have to take risk.

This is certainly an excellent habit to develop!! All of the “Greats” in Business have achieved their Success from taking Great Risks!! They definitely were not lounging around in their comfort zone. We, too, would rather take the chance to be GREAT, than to be Good and on the Safe side. Thanks for the Great Business tip!! - Hugo and Roxanne T.
