Empowerment from Spiderman
Welcome back!
A few years back, one day I had this brilliant idea that we should go rock climbing. My husband was not too keen on this idea about rock climbing. But I convinced him that it would be great fun, so he went along with it. We went to Joshua Tree in Palm Spring to a one-day group rock climbing class; 4 hours of training in the morning and 4 hours of climbing in the afternoon. During training, the teacher taught us how to balance our weight and maneuver around on this big rock with our super sticky rock climbing slippers. I was the most excited person in the group. Every time the teacher said something, I would be the first to respond, “Yeah, I got it!” Finally, after lunch all 16 of us stood in front of a huge 30-foot high boulder that went straight up and down. Our teacher was like this Spiderman character. He is thin and tall with super long arms and legs. Spiderman said, “Okay, now it’s time to climb.” I had this vision in my head, that I would scale the side of this boulder like nobody’s business. I got in the front of the line, and I was the first to strap in. I hopped on the rock and began to climb. As soon as I climbed over my own body’s height (5’3”). I suddenly froze up; I could not move any part of my body; not even to open my eyes. I screamed out, “I don’t want to do this!” Here I was stuck on this rock, like a bug on the windshield. I couldn’t move upward or down toward. Everyone was waiting on me; including my husband. I heard him say, “You’ve got to be kidding me! You talked me into coming, tortured me all day. Now, you are not even 6’ off the ground, and you want to stop?” I couldn’t do anything, all that I could do was to held on to the rock with all my might, with my eyes closed. Spiderman climbed up and got right next to me at eye level. He said, “Look at me!” After he repeatedly shouted at me eventually I found the courage to move my neck, turned my head and I looked at him. He let go of one of his hand off the rock, and he made gestures at me. He said, “Do what I do. Pick up your right hand.” I screamed, “I am can’t!” He said, “Pick up your right hand and reach up and then put your hand back on the rock.” He did this with me on hand after the other, on footstep at a time. Before long, I began to climb next to him. As I kept climbing, I hear him shouting, “Keep going!” I got to the very top of the rock and I realize I did this all by myself. Spiderman had been on the ground. Funny thing was I was not scared any more. Then I get to do the most rewarding thing, I get to repel of the rock. I repelled as fast as I can just like the Marine commercial. I was so proud of myself and had so much fun with my reward – repelling. That I did 3 more runs after, and each time was more fun than the time before.
Sometimes we can get stuck in life. You may have decided you are going to make a change, start an invention or start a new business. You get so excited and couldn’t wait to get started. Then you got started and all of a sudden, you freeze up. The obstacle turns into fear and it prevents you from doing anything about it.
That was I on that rock. I had all the positive thinking going for me, out of nowhere fear came and paralyzed me.
If Spiderman didn’t climb up next to me, to help me and give me that push that I needed. I could have been stuck forever, or I would have never known the empowerment of me accomplishing and lastly the joy of my reward. I am a success coach to many Entrepreneurs and that is exactly what I for my clients. I work with my clients with their climbing on their journeys to success. Together we reach their goals; a lot them archive many more goals while coaching with me. Some of them even gain a much-improved vision after coaching with me.
