Will you turn your back on MIT for your happiness?
Welcome back!
If you find yourself in a life that doesn’t fit you, what would you do? That was what my Chiropractor Dr. Ramsey found himself in after college. Dr. Ramsey shares with me the story of his inspirational history. As a young man he graduated from MIT at the top of his class with an engineer degree, and then he got a great job immediate after MIT. He was an engineer for two years. He said, “I was not happy. I remember sitting in my office, looking out the window, watching people outside and wondering what others are doing and if they were happy? All day in the office I just watch cars, wondering who was in the car. Basically I was zoning out.”
I said to Dr. Ramsey, “Is that when you decided you were going to be a chiropractor?” He said, “Yeah. I have always been into fitness. I played basketball, competitively, in college. I was always very good at it, and I thought I was going to be a basketball star, then I got a bad injury and basketball was over for me. I have always had a strong interest in how the mechanics of a body work, and how to help athletes like myself to get stronger or rehabilitate.”
One day after work Dr. Ramsey went home and he told his wife that he is going to quit his job. He told his wife, “I am not happy being an engineer. To tell you the truth, I haven’t been doing my boss justice, because I mostly daydream in my office. I need to do something that I am passionate about.”
So him and his wife plus their three year old son, moved out of there nice big home. They move into a small apartment in a much less expenses neighborhood. Dr. Ramsey when back to school to become a Chiropractor, years later he became a Dr.. With his Dr. Degree he opens his own practice. Dr. Ramsey said, “I couldn’t be happier for the decision I made, I believe I am a much more successful Chiropractor then I could have ever been as an engineer!”
Dr. Ramsey, thank you, for sharing your Imperfect Action story with me. He took the action to walk away form a MIT degree and a well paid engineer job; to find his happiness. He couldn’t have for seen if starting his career all over again, with the responsibility of his young family was the right thing to do. Yet, something inside Dr. Ramsey knows that he has to take an action about his unhappiness with being an engineer. Thank goodness he took his Imperfect Action many years ago; Dr. Ramsey is one of the top Chiropractors and he is the Chiropractor for many elite professional Athletes including some in the us Olympic team. Today Dr. Ramsey is a retired Chiropractor who only takes special clients in his home office, due to his Passion with his work he may never truly retired.
