How is your neighborhood?

Welcome back!

A neighborhood is a community. This is where our kids spend holiday and birthday together. A support system during trouble time, sometime even like our family.

Most of you would agree that our neighborhood is a big support system for a lot of us. A few weeks ago, we had a fire very close to our neighborhood. All of us neighbors calling each other, texting and keeping track of one anther.

This evening was Halloween; the neighborhood had a block Halloween party. All the kids gather and did Halloween together.

When my neighbor brings home their new born baby, my husband and I brought over cook meal to them enough for 3 to 4 days.

Some of the families share car pool together, watches one and other kids.

Our neighborhood, our community! A wonderful support system to us, with people we can count on.

As we all draw from our neighborhood! How can we give back to our community? What can we do to strengthen our community?

Giovanna:
What you are describing is no longer available in our metropolitan areas. These are days gone by. In the 1940’s and 1950’s we had neighborhoods as you describe. Here in New Jersey they have been long gone. I had always envisioned what you describe I would have for my family to enjoy.

Stayed in New Jersey and lost it all. We have had neighborhood watchs but that too disappeared because of other commitments more important to our neighbors mostly out of necessity. Enjoy it while you have it and stay involved to keep it.

Dear Mary Ann & Bob

I came from Hong Kong, and over there it is very metropolitan. So, I never really have a neighborhood. And I was so happy when I came to the US and I learn about what joy it is like having a community. I guess I forget even in the US not everyone have a this type of neighborhood. Thanks for the reminder for me to count my blessing. One more thing I can be thankful for my community :-)

Thanks for your comment, I look forward to reading more from you.

If we reach out, we’ll find neighbors just like us who are looking to connect. Young families need this support and it will make your neighborhood a better place.

@ Mary Ann & Bob

There is no reason why we have to sit back and accept that this sort of neighbourhood is a thing of the past. We can all start to do our bit to bring back that feeling of community. It starts with something as simple as greeting your neighbours when you meet them on the street, taking the time to welcome new families into your street, supporting local businesses. By getting out and supporting your community you make a difference. If we all sit back and throw our hands up in horror then nothing will change.

If a friendly, caring, supportive neighbourhood is what you want, then take action and make it happen!

Dear Meg

I totally agree with you :-) We can start with us. Take action and make it happen, we can be the kind of neighbor we wish other to be. Start being friendly, start supporting our community.
