Don’t be so hard on yourself!

Welcome back!

I love writing this blog; the biggest joy is to connect with people. I have the luxury of making friends through comments and direct messages from readers. Today I got a message from one of the reader; regarding my last post strengths Vs. Weaknesses. In her message she said, “I made a list of 20 weaknesses and 0 strengths!”

So this post is for you:

Dear Ms. Reader

First and for most, I like to tell you that though your comments and direct messages to me. I have grown to know at least 5 strengths about you. Further more, my point in writing this post to you is to explorer why some of us are so hard on ourselves? Personally I have been a victim of that in the past. During my time of over coming Depression I have done a lot of internal work. Once I was making a list of my best qualities, and my list making came to a dead stop. So I went to 3 of my closest friends and ask them to make me a list of what they see is my best quality. The 3 friends each got the list done in minutes. When I read their lists, I do agree with how they see me. And I was able to write my own list. What I found most interesting was a lot of the same item they wrote. Did flash across my mind earlier, yet I didn’t put them down on my list. I guess part of me doubt myself, or may be a part of me wonder if it is arrogant of me. So once I see the lists form my friends; than it is like I got the confirmation or permission to claim those qualities. In my family growing up I learn to be humble. I guest I didn’t learn to be assertive about who I am.

So from that day forward, I gave myself the permission to be proud of who I am and to speak out loud. As my good friend Ellie Drake would say, “Be Brave on the outside and Humble on the inside.”

What do say Ms. Reader? Don’t be so hard on yourself!

Give yourself the permission to claim your strengths! No confirmation necessary.

Sincerely,

Giovanna Garcia

Have you been a Ms. Reader yourself? Do you know anybody like Ms. Reader? What can you share with Mr. Reader?

Giovanna,

I can identify with Ms. Reader. It is very hard to see yourself the way others see you. I still struggle with that. What I have learned is to listen to the good that others see in me until I can see that good for myself.

Thanks for all the inspiration that you offer in your blog. I remind myself daily that one imperfect action is better than no action.

Dear Michelle

Thank You for the advice, “listen to the good others see in you until you can see them for yourself.” That is a good one.

Thank You for your comment, I look forward to reading more from you.

Great words of wisdom:
‘…I gave myself the permission to be proud of who I am ..’
Rather we should accept every human being as he or she is because every person is unique. We should be non judgemental about others.
Thanks for sharing a wonderful post.
God bless.

I was a vitctim of depression for a while in my teens, and it took a lot to build my self-confidence up; in my opinon I am still building it up further and further. My blog is one new way of doing this.

I have found though, that being depressed and worrying about things doesn’t actually get you anywhere. If you fall down and give up, you’ll never be able to get back up. You could try 100 times to get back up and fail each time, but if you give up entirely you’ll never get back to where you were - so you keep trying.

I learnt that from a great motivational speaker :)

Hi Gio & Ms Reader .. You have lots of strengths .. just find one and work with it .. it’ll lead to more strengths being found and those weaknesses will slowly, but surely fade away .. and you’ll learn how to deal with them. Be positive = that’s number one to get going .. & believe you can do it .. I’m sure you can and I’m sure you’ll change .. & we’ll hear from the Ms Successful Happy Reader soon, especially with Gio’s guidance - all the best Hilary

Hi Giovanna–I received an e-mail from a friend today who is a visual artist, she writes–”Five years ago I bought a book by Caroline Myss called Sacred Contracts– Awaking Your Divine Potential. After reading it it made perfect sense. (Google it) According to this book we all have SPECIFIC UNIQUE TALENTS (Sacred contracts) to fulfill and share. After doing the exercises to ascertain my unique gift, as instructed in the book, I came to the conclusion that “I am an ARTIST”. Although I had NO EXPERIENCE in art or painting I began painting… It was like a duck taking to water for the first time…When we do not understand our purpose in life the result is a spiritual deficit of epidemic proportions…”Then she states, that she doubts her own talents ~ she knows she shouldn’t but just have always been doing that as far back as she could remember–she’s good at recognizing talents in others, and not in herself.

Very nicely written, Giovanna. Many people don’t feel as though they deserve the good things that come their way, so they totally miss them. Sometimes I think it’s the fault of adults while we’re growing up, those who tell us not to enjoy our success because we could be on the wrong side next time. I always understood what they meant by that, but I think it’s messed up a couple of generations of people. I hope your post helps people feel better about themselves.

Giovanna,

I have been looking at your blog… You are giving such value to your readers and I want you to know that I am blessed to have crossed paths with you and Craig. I love the Action you are taking and you are a great teacher for many. As you know, I am closely connected with Ellie Drake and her vision of helping many to succeed. Now, I am also becoming very connected to you because I see you reaching out to help others which is what we all should do. You are totally correct in your teachings, “Imperfect Action is better than no Action”. Thanks for being an inspiration for me. I will be taking more Action in the days to come to bring value to others and to my purpose.

Love you…

Your braveheart sister!
