Give A Gift from the heart.
Welcome back!
I took 2 days off to spend time with my family and I just to say to everyone: “I hope you all got to spend some quality time with you love ones as well”.
Today is Black Friday the biggest shopping day of the year. Today markes the beginning of all the holiday shopping. In my younger days, I worked at the Mall. I remember seeing many shoppers shop with the obligation list. I recall people saying I have to shop for my neighbor, I have to get something for my office mate, I have… Sometime the shoppers ask what can I get for five dollars? I just need to give him something!
I recalled seeing these shoppers getting stressed, as their card credit cards are getting maxed out.
I think sometime we get so mechanical about The List: Larry, Mary, Jerry, Joe, Tammy, Wendy…. And we forget the true meaning of gift giving. It is not about fulfilling an obligation.
These days I am hearing a lot about how time is tough. May be this is a good time for all of us to get real. Get back to the root. Let’s give a gift of thoughtfulness.
Last week, I went to a long time friend’s 40th Birthday. She has everything under the sun. Of course I could always buy her more luxury item, but it wouldn’t really mean much more than any other designer handbag that is already in her closet. Instead I gave her 40 memories in a box. She and I have been friends since I was 18th. So yes, we have a lot of memories. I took forty 3” X 5” cards and on each card I wrote a memory of she and I. I put the 40 cards in a decorative box and on the top of the box I put a photo of us.
That is a gift that she cannot buy, and I had more fun writing the cards for her then walking into the Mall.
This holiday season, lets’ take action to giving something from your hear! You can write out may be 10 things that you are thankful for your neighbors. May be 10 good moments you have with you office mate. How about 10 things you love about your spouse or your brother and sister, daughters and sons? Put it in a box, put in a frame.
It may be the most priceless gift they have receive in a long time, and the most fun you can have preparing gifts for the Holiday. That is no stress and even fun to do.

Hi Giovanna,
Beautiful and Thoughtful gift idea!! We know she adored it!! If you don’t mind, we’re going to borrow your gift idea, too, and add our little twist to it.
You’re exactly right about how the hustle and bustle of the holidays can get in the way of the true meaning of it. It’s become so commercialized and much so mechanical. Your post and your gift idea really brings out the true spirit of the holidays.
Many Blessings….

Giovanna, Thanks for the great idea!–I recently updated my excel spreadsheet of names and gifts– I am still very short on gifts that I still need to get for next month–for b-days and for the holidays. I even went through about 30 catalogs and a ton of stores, but I like your idea the best and plan to use it!–I think it will work out very well esp w/a friend I have known since ‘89 and five friends that I have known since ‘94 and even the more recent friends as well. So, I’ll definitly be stealing your idea–hey, after all, my friend Chris says that imitation is the best form of flattery.
Hi Nancy
Thank You for the Flattery!! LOL
Please do use it, and share it with other. I think that is a much more priceless gift than any thing in the Mall anyway.
Thanks for your comment. Happy Holiday.

Hi Giovanna,
you are so right when you talk about the true spirit of holidays, many people forget to remember what it’s all about…it became a habit, an obligation, something that has to be done. And people feel when they are appreciated, you feel when you get something that was put thought into. You get back when you give, so give with all your heart.
Two weeks ago, I spent a day with one of my best friends. We were friends since we were 4 and 5 years old. When we were still little, we found a small golden pendant. After thinking for a while what to do with it, we didn’t make two out of that one but decided that each one would keep it for a period of time. I was the first to safeguard it and I told her I would give it to her when she forgets that I have it. So two weeks ago, after 14 years, I gave it to her. She was so surprised because she did forget about it. She almost started to cry and we hugged. We will never forget that moment. And it only brought us closer together.
It doesn’t matter When you give and the size of the gift only depends on how much you give of yourself…
Dear Stelle
What a heart warming story. I love it. Thank for sharing that with me, so sweet!
