The Meaning of A Family
Welcome back!
A good friend of mine Robert Hruzek is the writer of this fantasitc blog Middle zone Musings. He is doing a wonderful groupwrite project on a very inspiration topic “What I Learned From…the Generosity of Others?”
Here is my contribution to Robert’s project, what I learned from …the generosity of others?
I have had the blessing of encountering a lot of generosity in my time. One big one that came to mind was, when I was 16years old I came to America by myself, not knowing the language. Let’s just say I didn’t have many friends in school. In fact I only had 2 Americans who shown interested in wanting to communicated with me. One of them is Heather Kreps. One night Heather and I were on the phone which was more like a game of charades played over the phone. I told Heather I needed to copy of the classified, because I need to find a new room for rent. The family whom I was renting my room from was moving away. Heather simply said, “Just move to my house!” I told my friend Heather that she needs to check with her parents. And before I can say, ‘let’s talk about it in school tomorrow.’ Heather said hold on, she put the phone down and came back in a few minutes and said, “Mom and Dad said they will pick you up to this Saturday”.
Just like that the Kreps Family adopted me and my friend Heather became my sister. They took me in and taught me everything about being a family, being an American, being an adult and a lot of wonderful things. Jerry and Marilyn Kreps are my Mom & Dad. I am lucky to have 2 sets of parents: a pair of Chinese Parent and a pair of American parent. Marilyn and Jerry Kreps did all the things a teen parent would do with me. Mom watched me gotten in and out of bad relationships, did what she could to try to protect me and not matter what she stood by me. Dad came to my rescued when my car broke down. We have our up and down, just like all family, we have gotten upset with one another at times. We celebrated birthday, holidays, weddings, babies… all the special moment together. They treated me like a daughter; and never once ask for anything in return. They are my parents and my son Dylan’s Grandparents.
Once I said something to my parent about how grateful I was that they took me in. Mom and Dad said, “You needed a home, we got the room and you were a good kid. We have had other kids stayed with us over the years, so it was no big deal to us. They just didn’t all stuck around! ” My Dad winks at me as he said ‘stuck around’.
So what I learned from the generosity of The Kreps family was the meaning of a family. A Family is group of people who are giving, loving, supportive to one another. Sometime we have our differences but the point is we stuck around for each other. And we do it all without asking for anything in return.
What have you learned from the generosity of others?

Hi Giovanna
This is such a beautiful and touching story! It’s really nice to hear more about you.
For me, it was when I got divorced and my best friend “took me in”. She simply said: “come stay with me for 3 months”. Her and her husband were wonderful!

Hi Giovanna,
You really have a great blog. Thanks for messaging me on Stumbleupon. Email me using the email I supplied and lets talk!
Giovanni, a family is so important and you are very fortunate to have two. It’s a sorry state of affairs these days that there are many young kids you do not appreciate what their family has to offer until it is to late I hope that some of those kids get the chance to read this post.
Hi Sire

It was really nice of them to treat you as part of their family — something that not everybody is willing to do, even if they had the means to.

A lovely post. Families are not just the people we are related to genetically; they are also the people we choose to love.
