Richard Branson got arrested for his Vision.

Welcome back!

Why do some of us have fear about going after our dreams?  Worry about what if we try and we failed! Most of us look up to our idol, wishing we can be like them. Be as successful, as fantastic, as power, as wise, as smart…

The thing is, no matter who your idols are, he or she has have failures. I would even dare to say that they most likely had many failures. Perhaps they themselves do not see those as failures but those situations they got into would be view as failures for most.

Take Richard Branson founder of Virgin Records, famous serial entrepreneur “the king of the Virgin Empire”.

At 20 years old, Richard had a vision of changing the whole records industry - affordable records for everyone. Back in those days all the records were price regulated. Richard felt that it was an injustice that no one was allowed to sell discount records. So, he sold discount records out of his car. What young Richard was doing was in deed illegal.

At 21 years old, Richard was arrested and charged by the Trade Commission and the Export organization. The discount records his was selling were export goods. Those records were made and stamped ready to be shipped out of the country and illegal to be sold inside the U.K.

Richard’s mother had to remortgage her house to support Richard’s vision. Richard’s mother bailed him out of jail and the Branson did settle out of court with the authorities.

So if Richard Branson worried about doing things that was socially expectable. He would have never sold records out of his car. And if Richard Branson back off about the fight against the price regulation on records after his arrested than we would never have Virgin Mega Store.

Whatever your dream is! Don’t let it stay a dream, take action!

I’m not exactly ready to be put in jail over my vision, but that is a truly inspiring story. It also shows just how far some people have to go before they get where they would like to be! :)

I was just reading an article noting Richard Branson as an olderpreneur, so your tweet through twitter caught my eye. I had never known about this part of his story.

I’m guessing English isn’t your first language. Great post, though. Thanks!!!

Hello Angela

I think most time the media only talks about the victory, or stories that sells. I on the other hand always look for the inspiration side of any stories or victory.

Send me a message in twitter so we can chat :-)

Truly inspiring.

Going to jail for your vision is disgusting though.

Giovanna,

I once read Richard Branson’s autobiography. This guy is a dare devil! But he’s good! The story i loved best was the one he hired a whole plane and “started his own airline on the spot”, after there was a disappointing flight delay or something like that…

Hi Giovanna

A story that makes you think indeed. Great for the reminder about following one’s dreams. They and we, can often get lost.

Hi Kian Ann

I know Richard Branson is awesome! A guy who just do his own thing…

Most people when thye are disappointed by a service or company they go looking for a new service or a new company. Not Richard Branson! He goes open a new company for that! Talk about a man who do something about a problem!

Thanks for your comment. I look forward to reding more from you.
