You are your Brand’s Expert

A while ago I wrote a post about one of the main benefit to Personal Branding is that it will make you an expert. Well I was speaking to a group just the other day, and one of the audiences from the group asked a question about being an expert. The timing of this is very interesting to me, because only 10 days ago I had the same question from one of my coaching client. So I decided that I should share this questions and answers here.
The question was “If I claimed that I am an expert, what if someone else knows more than I? How would I handle that?
My answers were the following: “Have you ever headed of when the student is ready… the teacher appear! Well, you will appear to those who were meant to be your student and when you are face with a person who knows more than you do. Then you have found a teacher!”
You see… each one of us is like a coin, we have 2 sides. On one side we are the teacher and on the other side we are the student. So don’t worries about you having to know everything! No one person knows it all.
As long as you are passionate about your topic and know quite a bit than it is ok for you to be the expert on your brand. It is because you know that you will learn and meet your teacher along the way. At the same time you will be put in front of those who will be your student.
The great Jim Rhon said, “Sometimes…You can’t make it…On your own. Combine your knowledge…None of us is smarter…than ALL of us.”
So, Take Action on your personal branding becomes an expert of your brand today. Don’t wait until you know everything about it, that day may never be here.

Yes, when the student is ready the teacher will appear! I agree with you, there are times we are the teacher and then times we are the student! Even experts have teachers!

This is a very good point! You don’t need to be intimidated by someone who knows more, you can learn from them.
Excellent post! I am just coming to terms with how taking the imperfect action to start the things I’m passionate about is leading me to be my own brand manager/expert. Though I don’t consider myself an expert per say, I do know that what I bring to the table is my own expertise - thus my brand.
There is always someone more clever than yourself. The best part of social media is - that doesn’t matter. The playing field is level for everyone.
