Few weeks ago I spoke with a group about what was the best thing they ever done?

Here are some of the answers:

Becky in the group said: “The best thing I ever done was one day I woke up and I was so sick of being fat and unhappy. I walked into the local gym and hired a trainer. The first week I thought I was going to die, and I wanted to quit. But my trainer wouldn’t let me quit and I am so happy about the new me.”

John in the group said: “15 years ago, I was working in this company for 10 years and I kept getting pasted up for promotions. The company later down size and I got lay off, I was scrambling for a new job. Then I ran into my first boss. He was a kind of like a father to me, he was the one who got me started. 2 years after we work together he got a big promotion and he was send over to Japan. We lost touch shortly after he left for Japan. Anyway, my own boss told me he is starting his own company and he wants me to work with him on his start up. I remember thinking to myself – I really need a job with pay checks. But a part of me really wants to work with my old boss again. Well, long story short…I became the VP of our company.”

Jamie shared her story about her ex husband who was abusive. Jamie stayed with him for years thinking that it was good for the kids. Then one day she saw the looks in her daughter’s eyes, during a fight between her and her husband. Jamie left home with the kids with no place to go, Jamie and the kids spend their first night at a shelter. That was 14 years ago, and today one of her daughter is happily married and the other one is engaged to be marry in June.

More and more stories came out, and one thing that is consistence in every story was that each one of them had the courage to take action to make a change in their lives. None of them knew how it would turn out. Of course being who I am and how I view things, I would say that each one of them took Imperfect Action!

What is the best thing you ever done?

Oh tough questions. There are a number of things for me here I can’t really separate or compare to each other. They are each the best thing in separate areas of my life.

The three with the biggest impact in my life however are following Jesus, getting married, and learning to read faster to enjoy books.

Hi Mike

Your three best thing you ever are great! Following God, and getting Married are the biggest things :-) I would like to read faster myself!

Thanks for your comment. Come back anytime.

Believe Achieve - Hugo and Roxanne says: 20 January 2009 - 2:49 am

Hi Giovanna,

Two big moments in my life come to mind….

When I was 19, I decided to move away from home (Sacramento to Fresno) and be on my own for the very first time. After only 3 months of independence, something tragic happened. I lost everything I owned to an apartment fire. I didn’t have renter’s insurance and nothing could be salvaged from the fire. Instead of running back home to Mom and Dad, I decided to stay with a friend until I got back on my feet and got my own place. Because I didn’t let this event in my life break me, I learned so much about myself. “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger.” Most of what I lost in the fire were just material things. I was grateful to be alive!

The greatest thing Hugo and I have committed to is to take care of our daughter Mia without the help of skilled nursing services. Learning to be her nurses is our greatest achievement yet!

Many Blessings….
Roxanne and Hugo

The best thing I even done was to learn to say “No” to the things I didn’t wanted to do and to demands of other people no matter if that meant to risk everything or to happen what I feared the most; and to say “Yes” to the things and relationships that made me happy. It’s a huge breakthrough even though you keep putting big challenges over and over again in front of you.

The best thing I ever did was to rid myself of a rather crippling case of social phobia. I gained a lot of weight, was stressed out for months about dissertation work and then I got ill for a long time, which made me fall behind on important work and it made my perfectionist self extremely insecure. It got worse and worse to the point where I could not answer the phone or walk past windows with the curtains undrawn, I did not leave the house even to get the mail if a neighbour could see me and the anticipation of having to see certain people who were less than pleasant with me sent me into hyperventilation. I even hid in the trunk of a car once to avoid seeing someone! Somehow, I got through it. I forced myself through it, surviving those ‘horrible’ situations and seeing that it wasn’t so bad. I started with strangers, who couldn’t be disappointed with me, and worked myself up to acquaintances and friends again.

At the moment connecting with my mother - putting my visits at her time of life .. her last days & making them meaningful to both of us; however after the weekend at our brilliant seminar .. I’ve learnt that I must make myself a priority - make decisions and plans for the future that improve and benefit me .. & ‘forget’ about others .. I do tend to put others first …

Hi Emma

Thanks for being so open to share your story with us. I did a kind of the same thing myself once. I didn’t leave the house for 4 months, wouldn’t pick up the phone etc.. And I did the same thing - I decide to make myself to get started on stepping out side, talking to people again. And it is true once you got started, you look back and you realize it was so bad!!

Thanks for your comment, and sharing your wisdom with us.

Great blog post. My story is nothing really special, but it meant something to me and the people I touched. Around 10 years ago I use to deliver newspapers to mostly older people who never got out much. Seeing them everyday I got to build a very good relationship with these people. I was their friend and it was great to hear about how their day went or why they were feeling sad. It was amazing to me that as people get older we tend to forget about them. Most of the ones I dealed with had family, but they never visited or called. It was great to be their friend and brighten their day even if it was just for a very short time.

The best thing I have ever done was have my son for he is the most wonderful thing that exists on this earth to me (though he’s a teenager!)… Being a parent is a responsible role that is challenging, scary, stay-on-your-toes, a learning process and yet it’s heart warming, emotional, happy, and full of love as well.

The best thing I’ve done is to take imperfect action. Two years ago when I started my Network Marketing business I was crippled by wanting to prospect perfectly and market my business perfectly. It took me over a year to start blogging because I wanted a very perfect blog(if you know what I mean). Then I happened across your blog and your message set me free.

I’ve allowed myself to say the wrong things to my prospects, blog imperfectly and make marketing mistakes. And for the first time in 2 years I’m having fun in my business.

Thanks Giovanna for your inspiring blog and for sharing your message with me and by the way I love your chinglish- I was born in Cuba and so sometimes I speak spanglish-it’s a great blend of both english and spanish:-)
