You are the magic that makes it all happen.

Welcome back!

magic3If you have a vision big enough and you are willing to put it into action regardless of what others think. Then you have an excellent chance of success beyond any one’s imagination.

In 1859 Edwin L. Drake, tried to enlist workers for his project to drill for oil. People said to him “Drill for oil? You mean drill into the ground to try and find oil? You’re crazy.”

In 1903 Horace Rackham (Henry Ford’s lawyer) was considering investing in Ford Motor Company. He asked the president of the Michigan Saving Bank for advice. This is the advice he got “The horse is here to stay, but the auto is only a novelty — a fad.” Rackham ignored the advice and bought $5000 worth of stock and sold it several years later for $12.5 million.

In 1943 Thomas Watson; chairman of IBM said “I think there is a world market for maybe five computers.”

In 1946 Darryl F. Zanuck, head of 20th Century Fox; said “TV won’t be able to hold on to any market it captures after the first 6 months. People will soon get tired of staring at a plywood box every night.”

In 1962 Decca Recording Co. rejected the Beatles. They said “We don’t like their sound, and guitar music is on the way out.”

Apple Computer Inc., Founder Steve Jobs and his partner Steve Wozniak; in their early days attempted to get Atari and HP interested in their personal computer. They went to Atari and said, “Hey, we’ve got this amazing thing, even built with some of your parts, and what do you think about funding us? Or we’ll give it to you. We just want to do it. Pay our salary; we’ll come work for you.’ And Atari said, “No.” Then they went to Hewlett-Packard to tell them the same thing, and HP’s respond was “We don’t need you. You haven’t got through college yet.’”

When Fed Ex founder, Fred Smith was in Yale University, he wrote a paper proposing reliable overnight delivery service. This is how Fred’s management professor response to his paper, “The concept is interesting and well-formed, but in order to earn better than a ‘C,’ the idea must be feasible.”

Can you see, how if these well known success stories owner would have listen to others. The world would be a different place. So, go on and follow your gut feeling, people and experts doesn’t know you. They don’t know what you are capable of. You might not even know what you are capable of. That is ok you don’t need to everything. Remember just like driving in the dark if you can see 100 feet ahead you doing just fine. Trust yourself; you are the magic that make it all happen.

Hi Gio …thanks - those entrepreneurs who just kept going and succeed, often failing on the way, are amazing & inspiring .. thanks for reminding us of their achievements. Onwards and upwards .. believe in ourselves.

Hi Giovanna,

Those were all great examples of how believing in oneself will lead to great achievements. We can not listen to the ideas of others, it’s important to listen to our own voice. Follow our dreams and never give up. Like you say…”Trust yourself; you are the magic that makes it happen.” Truly inspiring!

Many Blessings….

It’s amazing to read about the failures of some of the greatest minds. It’s also interesting that so many important ideas were initially met with rejection. More reason to push forward regardless of the hurdles we encounter.

I love these real life stories you quote, Giovanna! Such inspiration for all of us.

No one else can decide for you and restrain you from succeeding in something unless you do it yourself. If you believe it, you can achieve it, as Hugo and Roxanne say.
Thanks Giovanna for a great message and inspiring stories.

Hi Gennaro
What would happen to HP if they would have took on Steve Job and his partner as employees?
Or what if the 2 Steve’s listen to the big guy, and packed it up and went home?
Push forward no matter what. That is what we must do.
Thanks for your comment, I enjoy reading them.

Great stories - Here’s another one about Pixar Films. Founder John Lasseter originally worked at Disney and in the 1980s tried to convince his bosses that new computer technology could add previously unattainable depth and dimension to animated films, turning them from two-dimensional or ‘2D’ into more realistic ‘3D’ images. It got him fired. If you’ve ever watched any of their movies, you know the end of that story. Movies like Snow White and the Lion King were good, but Toy Story and Wall-E are better.

Your advice is always on the spot.
Following your dreams it is the only way to go.
It is better to be pulled by your dreams than pushed around by your bills!

Giovanna Garcia says: 17 February 2009 - 9:25 pm

Hi Christopher

O yes, I am a big fan of Pixar. I love Wall-E, Nemo, monsters inc etc.. I totally know what you are talking about. John’s vision were so big that his old boss couldn’t see it.
Thanks for your comment and added John Lasseter’s story to this post.

Another example is Henry Ford. He revolutionized the way we travel. Yet, he succeeded with only an 6th grade level of education. :o Not only did several people think he would never amount to anything, almost everyone he ever knew.

“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young…
You can’t learn in school what the world is going to do next year.”~Henry Ford

“To do more for the world than the world does for you - that is success.”
~Henry Ford

Hi Nicholas

I love the Henry Ford story, he is a proof that it is not what you know it is what we do with what we know. A 6th grade education can change the world.
Thanks for your comment and added more to this blog post ;-)
