You are who you think you are.

Welcome back!

imagefetch2I got an email from a reader. Let’s just call her Beth.

Beth was married for many years and had 4 adult children. The youngest is almost 18 and he had just moved out. So, all of Beth’s children had now moved out of her nest. A year and a half ago Beth divorced her husband.

Now, at the age of 51 Beth is home alone… Beth said, “I went to the super market yesterday and I didn’t know what to buy. For the first times in years, I didn’t have to buy anything for anyone!?” Beth said I had not been alone since I was 20 years old. Beth also had started a new business right around the time of divorcing her husband. That business is has not taking off for her yet.

Beth’s questions were: If I think she can make it on her own? If her business will eventually take off for her?

I ask Beth, “What do you think? ” Beth said, “I am scare to be alone and I am not sure if my business is going to make it…” and then she said, “Everything I think my business is getting better, and I fail back. And I get mad at myself for falling back, because I should know better. I thought I learned that lesson already… I am not sure I can make it.”

How Do You Think

If you think you are beaten, you are;

If you think you dare not, you don’t!

If you’d like to win, but you think you can’t,

It’s almost certain you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost;

For out in the world we find

Success begins with a fellow’s will;

It’s all in the state of mind!

If you think you’re outclassed, you are;

You’ve got to think high to rise.

You’ve got to be sure of yourself

Before you’ll ever win the prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go

To the stronger or faster man;

But sooner or later the man who wins

Is the person who thinks he can!

It is not about what I think she can or can’t do. It is all about what she think she can do or can not do.

What would you tell Beth? She is waiting to hear from you.

Hello Beth,

Alot of the most successful women in business will tell you that the key to their success was their mindset. They all have one thing in common. They Believed in themselves.
You’ve already accomplished so much. You’ve raised 4 wonderful children, started your own business, and have the courage to face a new day. Life throws curve balls at us….it’s a part of life and business. But each setback and obstacle paves way for opportunity. Remain strong. We know you have it in you!

Many Blessings….
Hugo and Roxanne ~ Believe Achieve

Hi Giovanna,

Hi Gio .. lovely post .. Beth can and Beth will succeed .. she just needs to change her thoughts around .. ie be positive .. just turn on her heel and rethink her negative thought at that point - and approach that moment of time in a different way .. also that period of time will disappear very quickly and not matter any more.

I always think humans have great potentials to achieve something if they put their minds to it, and let God guide them along the way. In doing so, firstly the negative thoughts have to GO. I once was blinded by alot of confidence-lacking and ‘I can’t do it’ kinda thoughts. Just uphold e’thing to Him, while doing your best towards your goals. Even you didn’t get there, you’ll get to somewhere eventually. All the best! ^^

Hi Giovanna, I’m not sure what to tell Beth. I’ve never been in her position and wouldn’t know how she feels. I do know that she can keep feeding her mind with positive thoughts by continuing to read your blog and be inspired by other real life stories where people thought they weren’t going to make it and then did. All of us walk in shadow sometimes. Please send my love to her.

Hi Giovanna,

This is a story of self-doubt — something I think many of us have faced at one time or another. I say to Beth — believe in “you”. “You” can do it - whatever it is, as long as you want it badly enough. So, ask yourself that question, how bad do you want this - because I do believe that if you truly believe in yourself (and your business) it WILL happen!

Good luck to Beth in her decisions that lie ahead…

Hi Lance
You are a very wise man! I agreed with you Beth is facing self-doubt. And the only way to that is to believe in herself and to see who she really is.
Thank you,

It can be incredibly difficult to go out on your own and make something happen. But I’ve heard said many times and I’ll repeat it here. Those who risk win. Here biggest enemy is herself. I’ve been there plenty of times. She’s so afraid of failing that its all she talks about - well the universe will respond in kind and provide just that - failure. Have her switch her thinking around and visualizing only herself and her venture succeeding. Failure is not failing. She’s already taken more steps than most people do their entire lives.

Thanks for a great posts, this subject is something I can directly relate to. I have had lots of feelings of self-doubt and that type of thoughts in the What if? and I can’t do it - category. However. Realizing that this simply is a belief and a pattern of thoughts and not the ultimate truth is the first step. When we realize that we actually have the ability to focus in the direction of what we want we can begin to be empowered for real. It can be helpful to view the situation as if it was happening to someone else - if my best friend was in this situation, what would I tell her then? - Of course you can do it! We have unlimited power within and everything truly is possible and I know that Beth can achieve all her dreams and be a very happy person. Send all my love to her and best wishes!

great post, I think there is a big point made here that we sometimes rely on others so much and try to do good for them that we forget to take care of ourselves also.

Dear Beth…

The greatest gift you can give yourself is the gift of flight! Use your wings to fly and soar beyond and above the fear and self-doubt!

“Open your heart to your own greatness and worth for it will beat loudly for YOU!” ~Henie~

Thank you, Gio, for always being a positive conduit! :~)

Hi Lena
So, what I hear from you is be your own best friend in supporting and telling yourselves what to do in a situation. Great idea that is a good place to start!

It’s so true that whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.

I think one of the most powerful perspectives is going inside and committing to learning and growth, and enjoying the process and the journey. As long as you’re taking action, you’ll produce results and you can change along the way as you grow. I think it’s when we focus on the results too much we get in the way of ourselves. Living in the moment and giving our best where we have our best to give is a strong path.
