An Imperfect Action that can put $50,000 in your pocket.

Welcome back!

In our “ Imperfect Action is better than No Action! ” group inside Facebook; where we have strong community of voices, who believe in the philosophy of “Imperfect Action is better than No Action!” A place where we spread our message, sharing and supporting one another on empowering our lives with Imperfect Action!

untitledMarlee Huber is one of our member of the group and this is a story Marlee shared with us about, how she took a imperfect action 23 years ago that advanced her business light years. And a lesson that taught her ‘attitude is everything’!

 The following is Marlee’s story:

Twenty-three years ago I joined a company that has some amazing skin care products plus a full color line of cosmetics. I was a newby and didn’t know what I was doing or the first thing about the cosmetics industry, but I took that imperfect first action step!

Six women sat around the table while about a dozen of their kids danced around the perimeter. I was brand new and had only skin care products–no make-up. I led the demonstration trying to be polite as the kids created havoc.

At the end of the demonstration, one of the women said, “Is this all you have? This is rather incomplete.” She scraped her chair back from the table and headed for the kitchen and the plate of brownies. Another followed her saying, “I think I’ll spend my money on Christmas presents.” Pretty soon only one woman remained. She asked if I had anything she could take home that day. I did. One item in my inventory–that was all. It was a $10 blemish cream. She paid for it and I hurried out before the tears flew. I was absolutely horrified at my ineptitude!. I realized I was such a failure!

On the way the home the thought came to me–”Marlee, you can either be negative or positive.” I decided for some noble reason to be positive that day! I think it was self preservation–if I went negative I would cry all the way home and my eyes would be sore. Then when I got home my parents who were watching my children would be horrified to see me as a puddle on the floor!

Any way, at some point, I realized I had sold 100% of my inventory! Wow! Then I decided to call the woman who had bought it and offer her a free week’s trial pack of the skin care. I could hardly speak to her I was so terrified!

She was so sweet and said, “Sure, send it to me. I’ll try it!” I did, she did and 23 years later–oh my–I would guess that that single demonstration put between $50,000 and $100,000 profit in my pocket. I wish I had tracked it.

Meanwhile–one of the women is still probably filling up on brownies. Another is buying Christmas presents that are probably soon forgotten, but here I am almost sixty–being mistaken for 45 and owning my own growing business amidst a down economy!

The imperfect action I took that day advanced my business light years past those who took no action! So even when the majority scorn your imperfect action–it only takes one positive response to teach you that attitude is everything!

It just goes to show you, that when it feels like the whole world is caving in on you, if you just
dig your heals in and tell yourself to just face your fear and talk to one more person miracles can happen. Miracles that are life changing. Just think if you didn’t try one more time
because your self esteem would be crushed!
It’s the desire of the little choo choo train who says I think I can, I think I can.. when no one thought he could that will push you over the top.
Thank you Marlee for you story of inspiration and determination.

Thank you, Giovanna, for sharing my story! I know I have earned way more than $50,000 from this presentation because it has inspired me so many times and in so many places to stay positive and get out of my comfort zone! I’m sure it has inspired many other people to take the imperfect action and flip the negative to a positive. I have shared the story many times in trainings across the country. You never know who will be the connecting link to the next big growth spurt in your business. And you never know when the most dismal situation will have a silver lining. Keep that chin up and continue to take that imperfect action!
