The ROI of Relationships.

Welcome back!

istock_000000654029small-7478461A Great Business Relationship is one of the most important factors in making or breaking a business deal. A good relationship starts out with great communication. The customer wants to feel in this communication: confidence and trust. It is less about the product and a whole lot more about how the people in the business connect and engage with the clients. If your customers are with you only because you are the cheapest, then you haven’t build a relationship with your clients. Face it, anyone can replace you by being cheaper, but your relationship with your customers can’t be replaced.

As more time we are spending doing business online, it might be easy of some of us to forget that we are still doing business with people not with the computers. Doing business online doesn’t mean we can hide behind the computer and become depersonalize. Doing business online means that we use the power of the internet to bring more people to us, so that we can connect with more people and have more valuable relationships.

Personally I found that in today’s world instead of sending an email. If I can make a phone call, it will go a long way. People are pleasantly surprise to get a call and have a conversation with a human being who cares about them. This brings me to the ROI of Relationships. Because of people’s desire for human contact is so great, one simple phone call’s value is so much higher than say 10 years ago. For me the return of the investment time spend for the Relationship is higher than ever.

Of course, we still do most of our communication online, and with the convenience of auto message tools. We must keep in mind not to abuse the auto tools and allowing that to depersonalize us. Always be as personable as possible because that is how we can connect and engage, therefore, build a great relationship.

Keep in mind it is not traffic that buys, it is people who buys. The better Relationship you build with your customers, the more loyal customers and referral business you will have. Your relationship with your customers is the most powerful element and it will yield the highest return in profit.

Hi Gio .. as you say customers are most important .. and can make or break a sale - as happens on the high street. Online it’s even more important to build trust, be consistent and be patient, & also be available, if necessary to help and answer questions within reasonable bounds. Again it’s that trick of learning to listen to others, your customers, & relate to them as to their needs.

Thanks for the ROI on relationships .. Hilary: Be Positive Be Happy

Now Giovanna you need to go to the big companies of this world and teach them this- because they forgot this along the way. Trust is hard to build and easy to lose. I am bran loyal using the same brands for years such as Dell computers. That is until they break my trust. I have owned three dell computers and even tried thier mp3 player for a while (IPOD is so much better), but one day my computer broke and when I called they could not have been less helpful and in the end they said it was my problem. I fixed the computer but my next computer will be a mac- just takes one bad move to lose a customer for life so treat them like you would want to be treated- like a rock star or princess!

Very good information. It is always about building relationships. A personal touch in today’s world goes a long way and a personal touch when you are not trying to sell something builds relationships!

I agree! It amazes me when people are surprised to get a phone call instead of an email. But people need “real” interactions. We have become too attached to screens.

Giovanna,

It is actually obvious but we often forget that

Who simply amazes me is Gary Vaynerchuk. I am not sure if you heard of him or not. He is a host of http://tv.winelibrary.com/ and http://garyvaynerchuk.com. He is a vine guy pretty much, but he is so passionate that I even start watching his vines show even I don’t care much about vine. Actually I do now, kind of :) It is all happens because of his personality.

He getting thousand emails per day and he respond to each and everyone of them personally. It is amazing. That is where passion and personality can bring us.

Thanks for obvious but great insight

PEOPLE. That’s right.

I agree too - at work, too often we get caught up emailing each other…when we are only a few steps away. I always try and talk to everyone face to face - it’s so much more effective and warm.

Hi Jay
Your story is so powerful in proofing the point of trust in the customer and company relationship. Once a company shows that they don’t care, the customers are out of there.
Mac does have fantastic customer service.

Hi Peter
Yes I know about Gary Vaynerchuk, he has been on TV talk shows as guest. Gary is a wonderful example for us all, that we all have a chance if we are passionate enough.
Thanks for your comment and sharing your thoughts.

Great point on growing your relationships. Life’s not static, business is not static. It’s all about the relationships and connection.

Hi Giovanna,

I found your site because of the comment you left at another blogger’s site (Enduring Wanderlust). Somehow, I was intrigued by your name and my pointer was lead my some magic wand to your site :). Am I glad I found this. I read your background story and have the utmost respect for you! Also, I feel that someone out there has gone through the same thing I have and lived to tell the tale. But of course, you are unique and you have risen above your situation…but it gives people the motivation to get up and do something about it, instead of just accepting their “fate”. So, Congratulations on the life you made for yourself. I hope to learn from you, as I am planning to undertake a big change in my life. Hopefully. Soon. I have to have the courage. You know what this means…I’ll be visiting your blog often for some help!

Giovanna,
Great summary. You cannot put a price on friendships, it is the life blood of human interaction for 1000’s of years, and is becoming more critical in the modern, Web 2.0 era we live in. I always preach “Advocacy is your ROI”..
