Bulldog in Tutu.

Welcome back!

dolce_pink_tutu_dress-360x3041

I guess it would be fair to say that I have a strong stubborn nature. Once I put my focus on something I am like a Bulldog.  When I was 11 years old, I wanted to learn ballet. My parents told me I wasn’t allowed to take the class. I thought to myself, “Very well, then I’ll just go watch the class.” I took the bus every Sunday to go to the class. I  sat outside the Ballet class room and I watched through the windows until the class ended, then I took the bus home. I did this every week for 2 months. Then one day I was sitting there watching the class, and my father walked up to me and said in a deep voice, ” let’s go!” We walked to the bus stop and got on the bus ride home. Not a word was said. It was very quiet. Suddenly my father broke the silence. He said to me, “OK! You can take the class!” I guess I wore him out.  I danced Ballet for 20 years.

In my mid 30’s one of my old ballet injuries became increasingly worse. I was told I needed to have a very invasive surgery. I had 2 different surgeons’ opinions. They were both the same. I broke down and scheduled the surgery for 4 months later. I told my surgeon I was going to do intensive therapy for the 4 months. I asked that the surgeon perform an x-ray on me the day before the surgery SO that we could see if my 4 months of therapy made any progress. The surgeon said, and I quote, “You can do therapy until the cows come home, it is not going to make any difference.” I insisted that we schedule a X-ray. I left the Doctor’s office and I started to do my therapy work with a Master Pilates Instructor. I did it 7 days a week. And 3 times a week I drove an hour and a half each way to work 2 hours with the Master Pilates Instructor. Rain or shine I never missed.  4 months later on my pre-operation appointment, my surgeon and I met again. I asked for my X-ray and he replied, “No time today, and the surgery is tomorrow.” I demanded that they fit me it for an x-ray that day and I sat in the waiting room. 4 hours later I was back in the surgeon’s office and he had my x-ray in hand. We had a 30 second chat, and he said, “I don’t know what you were doing but your patella has lined up correctly since the last visit. When you need the surgery again you can come back to me.” Can you say, “Moo… my cows did come home!”

You can call my stubborn, willful, determine or even a little bulldog. I am what I am!

In the latest meme - the blogosphere’s version of the game of tag - Sire @ Wassup Blog tagged me. And by accepting the tagging of a meme, the rule is for me to share 7 interesting Random Facts about me. The point of this game to help us bloggers to get to know one another. Personally I feel that it is more fun for me to tell 2 little short stories, I hope you did learn 7 facts about me.

The 2nd part of the game is for me to tag 7 people for them to share 7 interesting Random things about themselves. I am tagging Hilary @ Positive Letters, Tom @ Tomasz Gorecki, Robert @ Personal Growth = Business Success, Trey @ Swollen Thumb Entertainment, Jay @ Inner Noodle, Henie @ Henn Art online, Daphne @ Joyful Days If you want to join in the fun, go and tag 7 people each and ask them to link back to the one who tagged them. Remember to twitter or comment on their blog when you tag them so they will know they have been tag.

That is a great post Giovanna,

Persistence and determination are great quality that can help overcome any adversity big time

I like how you persuade your father with silence, it is hilarious :) I’ve been in sales and in sales they use silence tactic all the time. Actually it is old school, technique still work, it is just now the way business done now

I like the idea to share random facts. It actually make me think that I need to post my picture and my voice and video on my site soon so people can see and hear and connect writing with the picture

Thanks

Holy crap! That title drew me in big time. Congratulations. I’ve had health problems the last couple of years and I’ve had it with doctors. I’m fixing myself now. Glad to see you did the same.

Hi Stephen
The doctor is not you, only you know your body best. Good luck.

Giovanna, I love the way you used the two short stories to weave together the seven different things about you. It was a very unique way of doing it and I think you put it across very well. I had a feeling when I tagged you that you would do something out of the ordinary and once again you have proved me right.

Arswino says: 15 March 2009 - 2:21 am

Hi Giovanna, I didn’t know you are an expert in ballet. :)
Many people are success because of their stubborn. The stubborn for not giving up to any obstacles.
Thanks for sharing your story here.

Right on! Kudos to you Giovanna, you are strong, ambitious and determined to achieve what many dream of achieving. I smiled to learn your dad finally gave in and that no surgery was required.

Happy Sunday!
