Singin’ in the Rain

Welcome back!

Have you heard of an American Classic “Singin’ in the Rain.” Debbie Reynolds a young 20 years old, newcomer actress was placed in the firm to dance with the famous Dancer Gene Kelly.

At first Gene Kelly didn’t want to work with Debbie Reynolds because she wasn’t a trained dancer, her background was a gymnast.

Debbie Reynolds had three months of eight-hour days to prepare herself for the dance numbers in Singin’ in the Rain. To be able to dance well enough to teamed with Gene Kelly. One day apparently Kelly insulted Debbie for her lack of dance experience, upsetting her. Fred Astaire was hanging around the studio and found Reynolds crying under a piano. Hearing what had happened, Fred Astaire gave her a pep talk and volunteered to help her with her dancing. The rest is history.

Most of us who saw  the movie sees Debbie Reynolds as a skill dancer in the movie, we would not have known the kind of hard work she putted in and the price she paid. Debbie worked so hard that her feet were bleeding during the firming of the “Good Morning” routine and Gene Kelly admitted that he was not kind to Debbie and that he was surprised when Debbie was still willing to talk to him afterwards.

While a lot us knows that Debbie Reynolds got her big break with “Singin’ in the Rain”. We should also know that big break don’t just happen to you, you have to work it and earn it.

Debbie Reynolds delivered the most memorable and spirited dance performance opposite Gene Kelly and Donald O’Connor. The 3 of them together created an American Icon, a timeless movie moment.

With determination and hard work we can be dancer, singer and even big movie star. The sky is the limit…  don’t ever let anyone tell you that you are not good enough. Just remember one third of “Singin’ in the rain team” was not wanted.

That’s a lovely dance sequence, thanks for showing it here. Wow, I’d never have guessed that her feet were bleeding all through that routine. Talk about guts!

Hi Gio .. I’ve never seen that before - so I was really happy to have watched the clip - at least we have a sunny day here! & it is a good morning.

People forget or don’t realise that most people who achieve have worked incredibly hard to get where they are and be successful if their different fields .. dancers seem to have additional challenges with bleeding feet .. as would other athletes in achieving their goals. It’s setting the goal and going for it …

Thanks - Hilary: Be Positive Be Happy

Gio,

“Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you are not good enough”. It’s amazing how seemingly simple this concept is and how commonly it is not genuinely applied.

That’s a great reminder of how much work can go on behind the scenes.

I used to underestimate it, but the more I see the behind the scenes, the more I see just how much talent is the result of focus and hard work over time. That’s why passion matters so much. Passion is the staying power.

You have used one of my favorite movies to illustrate a great point, overnight success comes from a lot of hard work. We must be willing to to the work.

Hi Daphne
I know you really did a great job on her number, I would have never knew about her feet if I have not read about it. That must be what it means to be a performer.

Hi Hilary
Yes, most of the news focus on the glory and I feel that it is very important to know that each one of the successful people paid their own way. That way when we are up again hard time we can be reminded that we are paying our way.

Hi Sunny
Yes, that is way every now and then we can use a reminder like this, in fact I don’t think we can ever hear about it too many times.
