President Lincoln heard more ‘No’ than ‘Yes’
Welcome back!
Abraham Lincoln had a tough life and he had many setback and obstacles along the way. In Lincoln’s life time he had heard more ‘No’ than ‘Yes’. Yet Abraham Lincoln done wonderful things for our country and he left behind a legacy that the world will never forget.

When Lincoln was 9 years old his mother passed away from Milk Sickness. Then at 20 years old Lincoln’s sister Sarah died during childbirth.

“Adhere to your purpose and you will soon feel as well as you ever did. On the contrary, if you falter, and give up, you will lose the power of keeping any resolution, and will regret it all your life”. ~ President Lincoln Letter to Quintin Campbell
We have to be brave enough to allow ourselves to have failures and mistakes; than smart enough to learn from them. And the courage to get back up and doing it over and over again.

Giovanna,
Lincoln is one of my all-time heroes. My favourite story is when he called a vote for something (I forget what) and everyone voted against while only he and one or two others were for it. He looked round the room and said…
“The Ayes have it!”
… and that’s why he’s my hero!
Resilience! Abraham Lincoln had has much of it as anyone ever did. “Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.” –Winston Churchill
Thanks for the great post!
I have read a great deal about Lincoln. He is a perfect example for Imperfect Action. He failed, failed, and then failed again, but never gave up even though he had sever depression. I agree with Daphne- he is one of my heroes too!
Thanks for the reminder. It’s perfect for a Monday morning. I was one of 10 children and if one of us would have given up we would have been trampled!

Hi Jay
I think is is because of his Imperfect Actions and his time with depression that I felt very connected with him. I too had sever depression and it is very important for people to know that depression doesn’t have to keep you down forever.

Giovanna,
Super post! I agree that Lincoln was an exceptional leader, he actually led the US thru the one of the most difficult times in our history. He takes action without immediate success! His mental frame of mind and conviction is what helped him overcome bigger obsticles later on.
Lincoln had a level of resolve that was beyond even the best leaders. There is a reason he’s ranked as the best president in most polls of historians. In the toughest times, he stood strong and ready to push forward.
Hiya
I never knew he experienced so many challenges or ‘personal development’ in his life. It’s like he almost went beyond success and failure to experience for a common purpose. Zen like. He’s one of the best known, most frequently referred to US presidents. Stumbled!
Thanks
Jens

Hi Gio .. Lincoln’s is an amazing story .. most of us would have just wished to stay alive and reasonably well in those circumstances .. he must have had incredible resolve to persevere on and ultimately succeed so well.
Thanks Gio .. for another wonderful ‘teaching’ story ..

Your recent posts are focused on persistence, failure, and achievement. I can clearly see how these three go together. The examples you bring here are very illustrative.
Hi Giovanna,
What a great story to share.I’m wondering at his faith to being adhere to his purpose whilst such embarrassments were coming on his way.It gives us valuable lessons.
Thanks for sharing.
Great story and the saddest part is that even though we recognize him now as the greatest…in today’s media saturated world, he’d probably never even make it to the primaries.
Hi Alik
Thank you for the kind words. I hope the last 3 posts together help someone to have breakthrough. Take an Imperfect Action, don’t worry about the failures, they are steps on the road to achievement.
