Don’t sweat the goofy stuff.

Welcome back!

304632402_dtxcq-x3

I had a long day of traveling today. There was a layover in Dallas on my way to Florida. It was supposed to be a 1 hour layover and turned into two and a half hours and they changed the gates three times. Once we got on the plane, we were all buckled in and the pilots came on the speakers and told us there was a minor technical issue, however he cannot take off until he gets technical approval. So we sat on the runway for another hour and a half. Then the pilot says we should be getting approval and will be taking off in about 15 minutes. Suddenly, another 60 people come onboard the plane and fill the plane to it max capacity. All the passengers were agitated and people started to talk amongst each other about the airline must have keeps us there so they can fill the seats. You could cut the tension with a knife.

Then the plane finally took off and we hit heavy turbulence. It was a very bumpy ride and the seat belt sign was on the entire time. The flight attendants were told to forget about in flight service and to sit down and get their seatbelt on. It got so bad, that people were getting sick. Suddenly, no one was worried about the delay, the several gate changes or the free drinks, we all just wanted to get there safely. When we landed, everyone cheers and we were all so thankful.

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire. If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don’t know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times. During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations, because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge, because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you’re tired and weary, because it means you’ve made a difference.

It’s easy to be thankful for the good things. A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks.

Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive. Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings.

The old adage about the silver lining often proves true. When we get beyond the small stuff there are lessons to be learned from each experience in our life, and for that we should always be thankful! There is beauty, wisdom and gifts at every turn!

Yikes. I’ve been on those flights before, not too often thankfully, but I know the feeling of just wanting it to be over and set foot on solid ground again. Sometimes it takes these upsets to make us appreciate all the flights that go smoothly. Thanks for sharing, and I’m sure you were one of the calmer people on the flight!

Hi Gio .. yes - those kind of flights can be tricky .. and I’ve learned to stay calm and therefore am less stressed than most around me. I just realise that the pilot and the crew don’t want to be late either .. or for something to go wrong - so I’d rather they fixed the challenge and we’ll all arrive safely, perhaps late!

Just being thankful for life .. it is the best -

Thank you for you .. Hilary: Positive Letters

Hi Mark

You are totally spot on! There is so much in life, we all just need to be open to see them.

Hi Giovanna,

I used to get upset over stuff like that years ago but then I had some major life changes and I just learned that getting upset will not make things run more smoothly. Life is so short and so precious. There is no need wasting time on things you cannot fix. I am happy that you had a safe flight…those bumpy flights can be scary at times.

Hi Nadia

I totally know what you meant. You are right, no need to wasting time on things we have control. I hope those who were very upset eariler at that flight, learn from this and not get so up set over delay etc.. Just be happy that we are all safe and sound.
Thanks,

Giovanna, it’s so easy to get frustrated with things like this but then how did that help anyone? Who was hurt by all the frustration? The people who were frustrated of course!

Did you see that YouTube video of the Mad Money guy talking about how thankless we are for everything? It was funny. Quite a bit of it was around airline flights. One guy started complaining when the in-flight internet connection went out.

Never ceases to amaze me , the fact that we see the light when we are most gripped by darkness. I’m glad you are safe and sound and more than glad that it made you write an insightful post.

Hi there Giovanna - funny how people’s priorities can change, when faced with a crisis! - or a mini crisis. Seeing our setbacks as useful and even being thankful for them is a great approach, that’s for sure.

Cheers - Robin

I travel a lot for work too and I almost never get frustrated (it’s tempting…). I always feel so bad for people that huff and puff and take out their grief on poor airline workers. Why? Take the extra hour you are delayed to relax. Breathe. Read. Reflect. Don’t make everyone suffer with you.

Plus, take solace in the fact that, hey, air travel is still pretty awesome when you think about it. In a few hours, you jump a few states. How cool is that?

Hi Mark

When everyone got scared, I think that was when everyone became thankful.

Hi Stephen

No I haven’t seen that Mad Money guy, I will go look it up.
I agree with you all the people who got upset and for no reason. What was interesting was when the ride got scary and at the end of the flight, everyone was just thankful.

Hi Sunny

Thank you, I am glad the flight was fine too. And I learn a lot by watching people’s reaction to it all.

Giovanna, I’m so glad you’re safe! I always get VERY nervous about heavy turbulence…probably a not-so-good thing when you’re a self-declared traveler :)
