A Granny that Kicks butt.

Welcome back!

Betty Fox’s husband died at 33, leaving her with little money and two boys. She worked as a bank teller and then as a clerk in a boys’ shirt company until it went bankrupt. Betty then lived

on unemployment until she found a job for a small billing company. Then when she was 67 years old that company moved and Betty was involuntarily “retired”.

Betty turned to the Internet to stay active. Her son, Marty got her connected to the internet by using WebTV, a service that uses the TV set to surf the Internet. Betty started to using the internet to search for a recipe for peach pie and everything from on-line porn to peach wholesaler came up, it was overwhelming. So Betty decided to something to help seniors like herself to use the internet to get the relevant information that the seniors are looking for.

Less than a year later she started her own website, called GrandmaBetty it went on line in September 1998 with some original material and hundreds of links. The site was intended as a starting point for seniors who want to go on line. With recipe for pie, movie review, suggestions for how to spend the weekend, government, health, investing, travel, magazines, memorabilia, news, weather etc..Betty’s site became so popular that GrandmaBetty was purchased by iGrandparents for more money than she ever dreamed.

If Betty Fox, at 67, could master both the tools and skills to create a website that not only services other seniors and able to sell her site for lots of money. What is the probability that you can, too? Only one way to find out…you have to go for it. Just like Grandma Betty.

Hi Giovanna, a plan is important, but we must not keep the fear of our plan’s failure in our mind, just do it, like Betty Fox.
Thank you for sharing, Giovanna. :)

How brilliant .. I know quite a few oldies who use the internet - but no one who’s gone out and built up a business as quickly or as useful a reference as Grandma Betty’s .. brilliant story .. nothing is impossible.

At any age - we can develop and build up a business to help others … it’s going for it.

Thanks for sharing Betty’s story .. good one -

It is interesting how people put in extreme situations produce better results. I think it is very hard if possible to move himself from the comfort zone. “Hey, I am doing fine. Why bother?”. But when the person is put in the situation then it seems like it works in unconscious level, basic instinct of survival, total mobilization… and boom! astonishing results. It takes too much discipline to never settle down and pushing for more improvement. Stories like this, told the way you do, serve nicely as a catalyst to not settle down. Thank you.

Hi Giovanna,

Loved your story about Betty Fox! Apparently, no one told she could not do it, if they would have she might have told them what to do with it! Reminds me of those grannies that you see driving a Vette! Go granny go!!

Thanks for the post!

Beautiful story and I like the happy ending.

I love stories where people take a challenge in life, step up to the plate, and surprise themselves.

Hi Giovanna,

It is inspiring article as always. When I find myself cannot do as I could when younger, I some times feel a little depressed that I am getting old. But, I cannot feel that way if she could do what she did. It is encouraging post. Thank you!
