Optimism.

Welcome back!

A little boy alone in the baseball field, he tossed the ball up in the air, and said: “I’m the greatest hitter in the world,” Then, he swung at the ball, and missed. “Strike One!” he said.

The boy picked up the ball, tossed it up in the air the second time and said, “I’m the greatest hitter in the world!”  When the ball came down he swung again and missed. “Strike Two!” The boy said to himself.

The boy then paused a moment to examine his bat and ball. He spit on his hands and rubbed them together. He straightened his cap and said once more, “I’m the greatest hitter in the world!” Again he tossed the ball up in the air and swung at it. He missed. “Strike Three!”

“Wow!” he exclaimed… “I’m the greatest pitcher in the world!”

Your attitude determines how circumstances impact your life. The little boy’s circumstances hadn’t changed, but his optimistic attitude prompted him to give an encouraging meaning to see what other things are possible instead.

What difficult time are you going through right now? Can you do something to change it? If you can, don’t wait another day… make the needed changes. If you can’t change the circumstance, can you change your attitude? If you do, you’ll discover that your circumstances don’t have the last word.

The world is setup in a way that if you wish to enjoy its pleasures, you must also endure its pains. Like it or not, you cannot have one without the other.

Success is not measured by what you accomplish. It’s measured by the opposition you encounter and the courage you have in your time of struggle against the odds.

You’ll find most things are difficult before they get to be easy. The greater your obstacles, the more glory it will be in your reward when you finally overcame. So, make your decision on what you want out of life, be prepare to pay the price. Sacrifice is part of the package. The road to success is a like a Toll Road, you have to pay first before you enter.

You might have to find out that you are not the greatest hitter first, before you learn that you are the greatest pitcher.

When things get difficult, stay optimistic and keep going. Don’t give up and you will get your answer soon enough.

Giovanna, thank you for the great story about optimism. We all need that more than ever now. What can we do to help ourselves. Attitude is something that can make or break what you are trying to do.

Love the video! Especially the way his eyes lit up when he realised what his three strikes meant! :) When I grow up, I want to be like that little boy…

Giovanna,

That boy had a wonderful attitude, and a very bright perspective on what must have been a disappointing circumstance.

You make a really good point here: “The world is setup in a way that if you wish to enjoy its pleasures, you must also endure its pains. Like it or not, you cannot have one without the other.” In order to enjoy pleasure, you also have to enjoy pain. This is sometimes hard to deal with, but it’s life. Sometimes the pleasure makes the pain easier to bare and sometimes the pain makes the pleasure that much more wonderful.

I love that story. I first heard it in a song by Kenny Rogers and it was such a play of the mind.

I love the video. It says a lot about how easy “letting go” and “transition” can be if we allow it.
