Mother and Child

The True About Mothers.

A mother can gave life to her child, but she cannot live it for her child.
A mother can teach her child things, but she cannot make her child learn.
A mother can give her child directions, but she cannot always be there to lead her child.
A mother can allow her child freedom, but she cannot account for her child.
A mother can take her child to church, but she cannot make her child believe.
A mother can teach her child right from wrong, but she cannot decide for her child.
A mother can give her child love, but she cannot force it upon her child.
A mother can teach her child to be a friend, but she cannot make her child one.
A mother can teach her child to share, but she cannot make her child unselfish.
A mother can teach her child respect, but she cannot force her child to show honor.
A mother can grieve about her child’s report card but she cannot make her child study,
A mother can advise her child about friends, but she cannot choose them for her child.
A mother can teach her child about sex and the facts of life, but she cannot decide for her child.
A mother can tell her child about drinking, but she cannot say “no” for her child.
A mother can warn her child about drugs, but she cannot prevent her child from using them.
A mother can teach her child about goals and dreams, but she cannot achieve them for her child.
A mother can teach her child kindness, but she cannot force her child to be kind.
A mother will always love their child more than the child could ever understand.

Happy Mother’s Day to all.

Hi Gio .. happy mother’s day to you too - enjoy your weekend.

I love those words .. I think I’d add ..
.. A mother can teach her child to communicate, to share her thoughts without criticism, to grow with her child in communicating - the child may not follow, but she will appreciate that sharing later on

Thanks - love the day! - with your family …

Giovanna, I love, love, love it! This was so good. You can teach but you can’t be the other person. Force usually backfires.

Hi Giovanna,
I love this, it says so much. And it really show that mother’s do so much in their children’s lives - and gives their children as many tools as possible to make the best decisions. In the end, though, it comes down to love - a gift that IS hard to comprehend it’s magnitude.

Good work, Giovanna. :)
This is truly beautiful poem. A mother always gives the best to her child, although the final decision is in the child’s hand.
Thank you for sharing with us, Giovanna.

[...] Update : Giovanna Garcia from Imperfect Action has also written a wonderful poem about mother. Check it out in here. [...]

I love being a mom. No one said it was going to be easy, but it is definitely filled with love. It’s amazing watching my kids grow and it’s also amazing how I grow as a mom as my children reach new stages in their lives.

HI Stephen,
It’s true. Just like the old saying….you can lead a horse to water…but you can’t make them drink. :-) I really liked this story, and I am glad you enjoyed it too.

Hey Lance,
I love your comment, thanks for sharing.
Mothers do so many things that go un-noticed. It’s good to have a day to remind us of all that they do or have done.
Have a great week Lance!

Hi Giovanna-

Thanks for sharing this….what a GREAT reminder. I just got on my son about being responsible and reading this, I just realized that that’s all I can do and I can’t just MAKE him do it. I just love him and keep going.
