Pro Fisherman with half of one arm.

Welcome back!

Clay Dyer, a Fisherman with half of one armClay Dyer was he was born without legs and only a part of his right arm. Clay is a man who never focus on what he lacks but instead he focus on what he have and made the best use of all that he has.

When Clay was 5 years old, he began fishing with his father. At age 6, Clay was fishing with his grandfather one day and he caught a 26-pound catfish. It was a 45-minute battle that exhausted him, but that got his competitive wheels turning and that experience likely had set the course of his life.

By age 15 he was fishing in bass tournaments. He decided to go pro in 1995 after winning more than 20 tournaments on the state level.

Clay Dyer, who stands 3 feet, 6 inches does everything a bass pro must do to compete. He taught himself to tie knots with his mouth, run a bass boat at 70 miles per hour and accurately cast a fishing rod by holding it between his cheek and collarbone.

Professional fishermen cast as accurately and consistently as Tiger Woods hits golf balls and Clay is no different. A self-professed power fisherman, he earns his keep by flipping and throwing topwater or crankbaits. Clay said: “I’m close to being as accurate as the other guys and, if I need to, I can throw a deep-diving crankbait 50 yards, I can throw it as far as those other guys can.”

Many people who have seen Clay in action and have ideas for inventions that might make his fishing easier and he would politely say no. Clay said: “I’ve always wanted to do things like everybody else, I’m living proof that you can do what you want to.”

In addition to fishing, Clay can throw a football and a Frisbee. He swims and plays golf, too.

Clay also finds time to volunteer to help children with disabilities. He serves as the national spokesman for the C.A.S.T for Kids Foundation and volunteers as a fishing guide and speaker for children with disabilities and terminal illnesses through the United Special Sportsman Alliance.

U.S.S.A. President Brigid O’Donoghue said: “When you look at him, you see he’s disabled. When he talks to you, you see he is not disabled.”

Clay Dyer said, “I tell people that all you really need is a heart, a soul and a mind. Then you say, `OK, this is what I’ve got’ and make the best use of it.”

Clay Dyer said: “I don’t focus on - I don’t have 10 fingers to help me tie the luer, I got about 25 teeth in month. I just focus on resources that I do have, instead of focusing on what I don’t have.”

Hi Gio .. there are such amazing people out there .. I just love your stories .. they really bring home how lucky we are. We should get their positiveness bottled and just spread it around the world .. they are inspirational.

I was interested in the inventors .. I thought you were going to say .. they’d learnt something from Clay’s technique and had utilised his leverages etc to create something new ..

- but it is Clay keeping himself grounded and getting the maximum out of the resources he has available ..

Thanks for bringing into our homes us another of those great people to remember and learn from ..

Clay is setting a great example about the power of positive thinking. There’s no reason why you can’t accomplish the goals you want in life. Even with the challenges Clay faced, he still manages to be one of the best in his field. That’s very inspiring!

Hi I’m Paul Newland…I’m on bikerpaul44@hotmail.com..My very good Mate over here in England had himself a very bad motorcycle accident. It left him without his right arm, missing from his shoulder and the rest of him held together with surgical pins and screws. He’s still very active and riding long distance on converted motorcycles. He was such a keen cast fisherman on our local river. Now he’s stopped and wont do it with one arm. I’d like to get him back into it..I know he misses it..
