To live your passion…you need courage.

Welcome back!

What does it takes to pursuit your passion?

All of us have heard of this thing call passion for life. What does it take to live your passion? It all sounded very romantic, like falling in love. However, in order to live your passion some time you have to face some scary thing.

Courage to face your fear.

Courage to face your fear.

My Doctor was a trained scientist and when she found her passion in healing. She changed her path in life from a scientist to be a Doctor. This took her walking away from a great paying job.  Seven years in starting over and thousands of dollars to complete her schooling to be a Doctor.

I also have a friend who is a very successful Entrepreneur. She was a doctor and realized her passion is to live the entrepreneur dream. So, she walked away from her doctor license and started her own business from the ground up. When I asked her, “what was it that you wanted to do that is more important than being a doctor?” She answered, “I can feel it inside me, being a doctor was for my parents. Being an entrepreneur was for me.”

My Chiropractor was an engineer graduated top of his class from MIT and when he found himself day dreaming at his job. He knew he was in trouble. So, one day after work he went home and told his wife about how he hasn’t been doing a good job at work and he has no passion for what he does at all. Next thing he knows, him and his young family down size from their nice home in a great neighborhood to an apartment in a not so nice neighborhood. He pursuit his passion in sport medicine and 3 years later he became a Chiropractor.

Courage

Courage is the strength to stand up.
When it’s easier to fall down and lose hold.

It is the conviction to explore new horizons.
When it’s easier to believe what we’ve been told.

Courage is the desire to maintain our integrity.
When it is easier to look the other way.

It is feeling happy and alive, and moving forward.
When it’s easier to feel sorry for ourselves and stay.

Courage is the will to shape our world.
When it’s easier to let someone else do it for us.

It is the recognition that none of us are perfect.
When it’s easier to criticize.

Courage is the power to step forward and lead.
When it’s easier to follow the crowd; their pleas resound.

It is the spirit that places you on top of the mountain.
When it’s easier to never leave the ground.

The foundation of courage is solid.
The rock that doesn’t roll.

Courage is the freedom.
Of our mind, body, and soul!

I love the poem about courage and the image of the penguins. Have you seen the film “March of the Penguins”? Penguins are actually quite amazing creatures and they have a LOT of courage…certainly much more than I have!

Thank you Giovanna, it does take courage to change direction in the things that we are doing. Some times like the people that you talked about, going back to school, down sizing, a lot of changes to make that happen. It can be done. It can be worth the effort. Go for it make the changes, Do What Is Needed.

Courage is one sure sign that we have passion in the first place. Passion is very much like love, it’s so strong it will make its way even when there seems to be no way.

It has probably been said, but it’s worth repeating:

The greatest fear isn’t that we will fail, its that we will actually succeed and achieve our dreams.

Keith says: 17 June 2009 - 6:04 pm

Certainly courage is needed ,and I think faith as well. We need to have faith, to believe without a doubt that if we follow the desire in our hearts that the way will be made. To believe in our heart and mind that we have ALREADY received is a powerful process. I honestly believe that when we the desire shows itself in our heart, that along with that desire comes the ability to achieve it. =)
Great article and an inspiring one.

Giovanna,

I like what the poster said - to find something that matters more than the fear. Great examples you gave too.

Hi Giovanna. The words “Don’t let your comfort zone trap you for life.” really jumped out at me here. What a contradiction eh? Being trapped by “comfort”.

Hi Giovanna,

Great examples and stories of those who followed their Passion. Living life without passion isn’t quite living at all.

Our favorite line from the poem, “It is feeling happy and alive, and moving forward….”

Beautiful post. Thank you so much for always Inspiring.

Hi Giovanna,

Beautiful message and one that we all need to heed in life. A life that is full of passion is possible and it does take courage to go after it. Life is too short not to take any chances. :)

Thanks for this — the career change stories reminded me of a few people I know who want to change their careers but have families and so they’re afraid of taking the next step. What I think people often don’t realize is that if they go and do something that they really feel inspired about, they uplift their families and everyone around them.

Courage is a very under-stated quality that often gets overlooked!

Sometimes, just getting up and starting another day is an act of courage. Sometimes saying no, instead of yes. Or believing that you can when everybody else thinks that you can’t.

Courage should be celebrated more often, I say!

So thanks for for this post. Imperfect action indeed…

Hi Everyone of you out there: Courage is a conscious choice you make. It is taken in an instant. Decide what you really really want. Each of the action steps you take thereafter takes you towards or away from your Goals. Whatever you dream, you believe, you will achieve. Speak right. Do not procrastinate. Do not worry what others think, do or say. True life is too short. Start just Now. Whatever dreams you have, God has already empowered you. You can make it and much much more. You are precious. There are no one like you in the entire universe. Stand tall, think BIG and expand your Dreams. You can achieve, what ever you focus on.

Love,

Carl says: 17 March 2011 - 3:11 pm

Keith, I think there is a definite distinction between courage and faith. Faith is a nice idea, but if you have faith that it will definitely work out, that’s not courage. That’s faith. I think courage by definition is doing something in the face of possible defeat. This is part of what makes me think many positive religious actions are questionable, even if they are good, or avoid bad action ie. Is the faithful follower doing something good because they truly have the COURAGE to do the good thing in the face of tall risks and from their own heart, or are they doing it just because they have FAITH and belief in a higher being that will PUNISH them if they do not do good in the face of risk, and avoid doing bad, and because they have FAITH that it will all work out for them in the end if they follow whatever their “god” says. Definitely a difference.

Carl says: 17 March 2011 - 3:14 pm

Faith is blind. Courage knows the dangers, and goes forward anyway.
