Is there a short cut to success?

Welcome back!

Climbing up a mountain

Climbing up a mountain

In my work as an inspiration speaker and a success coach, often time people come to me for help to achieving more success in their lives. As much as I wish I could hand over a magic key for them to unlock success. The true of the matter is there is no such thing as a magic key.

What normally happen is that the client and I together determine what their goals are, than with a little more understanding of what my client’s back ground, strengths and weaknesses. I gain the knowledge of whom my client is as a person and after learning what are his or her motivations, I have a good sense of what my client is all about.

From that point on, I help my client define the necessary steps to achieve their goals. Follow by a time table, where we create the time line of schedule tasks to be done. Sound easy enough?

Most people at this point are amazed by how simple the steps are and logical the plans are. Normally they are very excited about having the steps and the plans of what to do. Every time, I tell them, “The success of you, depends on how willing you are to pay your dues!” Never have I had one client that disagreed with me, on the surface everyone understands that they have to pay their dues and do the work.

Yet, realistically more people ended up not doing the work to help themselves successful than those who actually took the steps to pay their dues. Why does that happen? How could it be? Didn’t every one of them say they want help to achieve more success in life? If they really want to have a better life why don’t they do the work? Could it be that these people don’t really want a better life?

The answer I believe is, “Yes, they do want a better life.” It is just that they can’t seem to kick the habit… the habit of laziness. Their lazy habits screamed out louder than their desire for success.

The desire for success speaks to them and it motivates them like a strong cup of coffee. So, these people say, “I can do this, I want a better life so bad that I will do whatever it takes… so on and so forth” Everyone got a strong start.

Than the lazy habits came in and it starts to talk, it says things like: excuses, justifying why they can’t and then asking for short cut. Most time the voice of laziness sounds like: “I got too much going on right now, I will start later.” Or, “I don’t have any help or support, it is just Too Hard! It is not easy for me…” Then last but not least, “If only there is an easier way, something that can help me makes it happen faster and simpler. So I don’t have to work as hard…A short cut!”

Looking for a short cut is not the same as looking for a way to work smarter. Working smarter is just looking for a way to work more effectively. The key being the word WORK is involved. Short Cut is all about doing less…to CUT. And there is no way to achieve more by putting in less.

Success comes to those who are willing to pay their dues. If you want to get up to the top of the mountain, you have to climb up hill. There is no short cut, you just have to climb. The same goes to success, there is no short cut!

The only thing short cut is good for is to cut your potential.

It is always better to work smarter not harder. That helps you to get more done so that you can have more fun. Short cuts do not work. They end up costing you in the long run. Thank you Giovanna for the insight and the help. Glad that your blog is back up.

Hi Gio .. I love the definitions of short CUT and WORK smarter - those will be really helpful to us all, as your readers. Absolutely makes sense and I’ll retain that phrase .. thank you!

I’d like to add to your success coaching and inspirational speaker - it’s patience for some of your clients (me in this case) .. who know where they want to go - while at the same time having ‘more important life situations’ to deal with -as my dying mother. I don’t believe I’ll regret my time - but I do get frustrated at the split my energies have to make .. & include my uncle .. however without my mother’s position I’d have never started this particular blog, which my mother enjoys, my uncle enjoys and I love writing - having set a future for myself.

I appreciate the patience .. I know you’ll be there to help - on the other hand I have the responsibility and the sense to know what I need to do, and as an entrepreneur I can learn from others .. and utilise my brain to develop my brand, my path ..

My brain is ahead of me at the this moment! So I need patience and fortitude to do my best for my two elders ..

The thing I have done is …. is Imperfect Action regularly, refining the ideas as I go .. energy and motion in moving forward - essential to the future ..

I love the new video of Imperfect Action .. I must contact the chap I met in San Diego when I was last out .. and see if he’ll help ..and start the process for mine too ..

Go well and have a good week -

This is excellent! A high school counselor had in her office a sing that said “YOUGOTTAWANTA.” I loved it and have never forgotten it. My daughter is very successful and little did the counselor know I was taking a refresher course as I sat in her office.

I once heard a story of a doctor who wanted to write a novel. Every Monday morning he spent the first 3 hours writing. Over a years time he had his book. Simple enough, eh?

Great post! You make such a great point about how imporant hard work is. Short cuts involve cutting something and, as you said, we can can’t achieve what we want by not doing the work.

Beautiful post.

If there is a magic key, the 3 things I’ve found are:
1. mentors - the right mentors are the short cuts.
2. self-knowledge - knowing and changing yourself is a way to unfold your best.
3. deliberate practice - the power of concentrated effort goes a long way for changing your game.

Ultimately, I think success is a path you follow while making the most of what you’ve got and improving along the way … living and learning.

Thanks for this Giovanna. It was a big a-ha moment for me as well to realize that everyone has their own places where they could benefit from learning and growing, and the same advice won’t always work for two different people. I think this is why working one-on-one with people and dealing with their unique needs is so important.

Giovanna,

Your post today struck me…..to achieve success you have to climb to the top of the mountain. I do believe you have to follow the correct steps and utilize the correct tools.

Thanks for the inspiration!

Fantastic post! It was a great way to end a Monday! I especially liked this sentence: “Success comes to those who are willing to pay their dues.” I am going to remember that and tell people that! Thanks again for the post

Hi Hilary

I beleive everything happen for a reason. I feel that you are on the path to discover the wisdom that you need in your venture. Patience might just be a part of what you are learning. :-) You are taking imperfect action everyday, and you know what I say, “Imperfect Action is better than No Action and Perfection is the journey of many imperfect actions.” You are well on your way, my friend!

Hi Tess

3 hours a day and a year later, a book was created. It is that simple. Live is very simple, a lot of time we make it harder than it has to be.
