The future belongs to those who welcome change.

Welcome back!

When you are through changing, you are through.

New Growth

New Growth

Are you uncomfortable with change? Changes create the rhythm in our life. Without changes our lives would be very flat and uneventful. Yes, sometimes change can be stressful, and our initial reaction might be, “Changes are bad!” But if you look closely, changes are opportunities under cover. Just think what would happen if we didn’t change in the last 100 years.

What was the world like 100 years ago?

The average life expectancy in the United States was forty-seven.

Only 14 percent of the homes in the United States had a bathtub.

Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. A three minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars.

There were only 8,000 cars in the US and only 144 miles of paved roads.

The maximum speed limit in most cities was ten mph.

The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower.

The average wage in the U.S. was twenty-two cents an hour. The average U.S. worker made between $200 and $400 per year.

A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2500 per year, a veterinarian between $1500 and $4000 per year, and a mechanical engineer about $5000 per year.

More than 95 percent of all births in the United States took place at home.

Most women only washed their hair once a month and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo.

Canada passed a law prohibiting poor people from entering the country for any reason, either as travelers or immigrants.

The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska hadn’t been admitted to the Union yet.

Drive-by-shootings, in which teenage boys galloped down the street on horses and started randomly shooting at houses, carriages, or anything else that caught their fancy, were an ongoing problem in Denver and other cities in the West.

The population of Las Vegas, Nevada was thirty. The remote desert community was inhabited by only a handful of ranchers and their families.

Plutonium, insulin, and antibiotics hadn’t been discovered yet. Scotch tape, crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn’t been invented.

There was no Mother’s Day or Father’s Day.

One in ten U.S. adults couldn’t read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.

Coca-Cola contained cocaine instead of caffeine.

Punch card data processing had recently been developed, and early predecessors of the modern computer were used for the first time by the government to help compile the 1900 census.

There is no growth without change. Evolution can’t be stop, we must change with the time.

Let go of the past and move forward. The future belongs to those who welcome change.

I love the perspective. A quick look in the past shows us how things have really changed. It also shows us how the more things change, the more things stay the same.

I used to embrace what I had by fighting change. Eventually I learned to embrace what I had by embracing change itself and learning how to ride the dragon. Life’s not static, so if we’re not growing better, we’re growing worse.

This is great! It was great to learn new things. I have trouble with change sometimes but it’s so important to embrace it when it happens. Acceptance is key when it comes to dealing with change.

Hi Gio ..it is surprising what we’ve achieved in 100 years .. as I keep finding out as I post .. today is yet another example - the first flight had only been six years previously ..

Change is good - I’ve always loved it .. move on, learn, grow, develop, get new shoots .. and watch the explosion of life around you ..

Thanks - have a good week ..

This is great stuff. My father who died a month ago would remember 95% of this! It so helps me understand him even more.
Thanks!

Hi Giovanna,

Your post struck me as being appropriate for so many things! The first thing that came to mind is our financial systems. Although, a prime example of imperfect action….they have probably helped to prevent a second great depression.

As difficult as it seems some times….it certainly could be worse!

Thanks for your thought provoking post!

A pretty interesting one.
It emphasizes the value of changing and accepting the change in a nice manner.Actually if we hesitate to accept the change, what happens is world will move forward leaving us alone in the place we are.
Thanks for sharing Gio :)

Nice facts and a nice lesson. You should learn to accept change otherwise world will go ahead leaving us in the same place.
Thanks for sharing Gio :)

Hi Vikun
Change is very important to life. We must accept it, because it is happening with or without us.
